Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I need ongoing support to help my physical disability & would benefit greatly from massage, gym & water therapy. There are no subsidised programs in my area for this type of treatment.
There are times i need weekly counselling for my mental health issues. At the moment only 12 visits per year are subsidised…this isn’t enough.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, Increased ability to coordinate services to suit the “whole” person/family, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, In-home care and domestic assistance, Positive behaviour support and psychological services
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Because I am a person living with physical disabilities & mental health issues & I want to be able to maintain an independent quality of life which will, in turn, relieve the burgeoning health care system.
