Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
there is too much unmet need. People who need a little support to be able to get on with their lives are not able to get adequate access to funds. It will all work better for people if support is individualised - this will also be better stewardship of our collective resources
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Better access to education and work opportunities, People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams, People with disability/family will influence the types of support and services offered
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Education support (technology/services/equipment), Support for families and carers, In-home care and domestic assistance
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
we can all live better lives that contribute to our community
