Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing
Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I have now reached a stage in my life where my disability’s are impacting on my life more. I have kept on keeping on until now and now am starting to require more services from somewhere. I get 1hr per fortnight from my local council to do my bathroom and on suit. I require help with ironing, washing & hanging out washing.
A friend helps when he can by vacuuming the lounge and sweeping the floors and mopping them. and there is a lot of floors to sweep and wash. He is no iron er & I end up having to do a few items at a time.This is physically taxing on me but I have to do it. I need a proper reclining chair as yet not with lift mechanism I have looked and they are so expensive I simply cant afford it.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, More opportunities to participate in the community, Minimising the number of times people have to tell their story in order to get support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, In-home care and domestic assistance, Positive behaviour support and psychological services
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I believe this is the only way those of us with disability’s will gain the respect of the rest of our communities.
That we will not be put in the to hard to deal with basket and brushed aside.
That those of us who wish to work within our abilities are encouraged to do so without being ALL of our earnings being taken from us. by Center link. Yes we do have to repay some but it should not be as much as other service’s i,e, new start.
