Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
It is too late for my son now due to constant dithering by Governments. He is terminally ill with Huntington’s disease . However,had NDIS been in place some years ago he and others in a similar position would have enjoyed a far better lifestyle.
I am constantly visiting nursing homes and aged care facilities and am dismayed at the conditions so many young patients are forced to endure.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, More opportunities to participate in the community, People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Recreation and community access
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Because of long term health issues in my family that could be eased by NDIS.
