Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing
Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Applying for funding from various funding bodies is difficult and stressful. It is limited and restrictive. Wait times are extremely long. The NDIS will eliminate these barriers, allowing hopefully stress-free flexible funding for my daughters needs. In turn, giving her a better quality of life.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
The average standard of living in Australia is quite high in world standards. So just because you have the misfortune to be born with, or acquire a disability, doesn’t mean you should miss out on this high standard of living. Any governments role is to look after the people by providing services to those most in need, in other words to distribute the wealth to create a fair and equalitable society. There is no other group in Australia that is more in need or more deserving then the disability community. Fund the NDIS first! For example, I think the NDIS is more deserving of government funding then private schools.
