Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing
Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
It is very hard to find the help we need, when we need it. When we do find what we need it is very hard to access it quickly & easily. We have become accustomed to long waiting periods, masses of paperwork & confusing red tape. All of which we don’t have the time or resources for.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, Better access to education and work opportunities, People with disability/family will influence the types of support and services offered
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, Support for families and carers, In home care and domestic assistance
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Because I hope in a better future for my three ‘disabled’ children. Because I want to see a country where they can live freely & happily without any more restrictions to hinder them than what they already have. I support the NDIS because I want the fact that my children have Muscular Dystrophy to have nothing to do with what they can achieve in life. I support it because is crucial that things change for the better. It’s about time!
