Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing
Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
The present system is fragmented (one area doesn’t talk to another for the WHOLE OF LIFE story of an individual) and is not ‘listening’ to what we are trying to acheive.
We are doing everything in our power to create a meaningful life for our family member in an innovative way (to prevent the tax payer from an undue burden)……but there is never any pro-active help (from the system) so all we get is……..SAME OLD, SAME OLD…..Nothing!!
Too many ‘middle-women/men’ when it comes to what we are asking for. Too slow. Too many forms!! Too many items un-related to our family member. Too much talk and NOT ENOUGH ACTION!!
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
People with a disability can choose the types of support to use, More rights for people with a disability, Less red tape, with planning done locally by people who know their community
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Employment support, Support for families and carers, Accommodation options
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
To know I will be finally able to assist my son to live an ordinary, healthy,meaningful,life in the community; instead of the unhealthy, isolated life he ‘exists’ with at present. The NDIS will give every australian a ‘fair go’ without discrimination……HOPEFULLY!!
