Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Currently there is inadequate access to equipment, carer services, accomodation needs, therapy services and transport services for people with disabilities. They are already have extremly limited funding opportunities either public or privately due to the excessivly high cost of the above needed for people with disabilities. Consequently the individuals and families in question are not getting evidence based service delivery which would improve their quality of life, function and participation.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, Better access to mainstream support and services, Removal of age barriers to services for children
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Equipment and home/vehicle modifications, In-home care and domestic assistance
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Provides an combined service provision free from fault to support people with limited or no voice in advocating for their needs to optimise their quality of life and access to services, equipement etc..
