Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing
Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
We need to have more control of our own funding which gives us more choice of services. As currently a lot of service / agencies need to be more accountable as currently they receive the funding due to the number and type of disabled clients they have on their books. Then the agency allocates what services are available to you. Where the NDIS if setup right will give more choice to the client to choice what suits there disability needs.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
People with a disability can choose the types of support to use, People with disability can choose who comes into their home, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Life-skills, Flexible in-home/outside home respite
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Disabled people need to be cared for with the right support structure.
