Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing
Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
I am married to a volunteer who works for a disability organisation. I understand from him that the current system is far from a fair and balanced system with some funding meeting the needs and others that do not. I am confident the NDIS will address this.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
People with a disability can choose the types of support to use, People with a disability can plan their lives and pursue their goals and dreams, Less red tape, with planning done locally by people who know their community
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Support for families and carers, Flexible in-home/outside home respite, Crisis and emergency support
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
I support this scheme as it will be a distinct improvement of what currently exists. It will allow choice for those affected and it will provide long term solutions for people with a disability.
