Please consider this email a formal submission by me to the Senate Standing
Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Not applicable at this moment.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Better access to mainstream support and services, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Support for families and carers, Flexible in home/outside home respite
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
As the wife of a severely disabled husband who suffered from a genetic condition (Cadasil) for 20 years I know first hand how hard mentally and physically we ,as a family felt let down by the lack of support we received .My husband was 37years of age when he suffered his first stroke -our three sons were 10-8 and 10 weeks of age . My husband passed away in 2006 after many years of suffering .I worked to support our family with no Government assistance . I was informed that if I were to divorce him we would be able to claim a pension !!. I totally support the NDIS so families that suffer this predicament dont have to endure the pain we as a family have.
