Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Many years ago, in another state, when my family needed support it was not there. This was partly due to a doctor who did not like my husband.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Ensure support and equipment is available when needed, The ability to receive services when needed and in the way that suits the person, Older parents and families will not worry what happens when they can no longer provide support
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Education support (technology/services/equipment), Support for families and carers, Positive behaviour support and psychological services
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Some people are born with a disability. Some people have a disability as the result of an accident. Why should they be condemned to a life without adequate help? We all need to be able to join in with our communities and obtain an enjoyable life. The NDIS will make this happen.
