Committee on Community Affairs Inquiry into the National Disability Insurance
Scheme Bill 2012.
The current disability system has many problems that need to be addressed.
Mental health services need a major overhaul… Staff are rude (at both hospital and community mental health) there are 9day waits in chairs in emergency as well. Over 24’s with mental health issues are treated as second class citizens which is not fair.
The main features of the NDIS that will make a difference to the community are:
Better access to mainstream support and services
The most important services for the NDIS to provide are:
Therapy and allied health services, Recreation and community access, In-home care and domestic assistance, Case management, planning and coordination, Crisis and emergency support, Positive behaviour support and psychological services
I support the introduction of the NDIS.
Because I’m hopeful that the services will improve under the scheme. Anything would be better than what’s available.
