National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1042
My name is and my 32year old niece has Crie Du Chat.
Since she has started receiving support through the NDIS, her life has completely changed, basically, she has a life.
Before the NDIS her communication skills and her social skills were almost non existent.
With ongoing support, the plan was for her to eventually become somewhat independent, but still within a monitored environment. This has become even more crucial in the last few years as my brother and his wife, both in their 70s, suffer from ill health. My brother now has Parkinson’s, Diabetes and early onset Dementia.
The strain that any of the proposed cuts will put on the family will be huge, but of particular concern is the proposed 50% cut to social and community participation.
Everybody deserves to be part of a community and my niece now, through programs like Stellar, has found her community. She would be devastated if these activities were no longer available to her.
What is particularly disturbing, is that decisions will be made about her future using algorithms with no avenue to appeal.
So, in summary I would like the committee to reconsider the cuts to social and community programmes and to allow an appeal process so that decision can be made in a humane and considered way.
