National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1047

I write this submission as a friend and family member of people who use the NDIS to live life, work, engage in society and participate in our communities.

The NDIS was Labor’s creation and was privatised by the LNP and without repair to it’s nationalised origin has become a budget nightmare. But you know what life will be like without it for the people using it daily? A literal living nightmare. The NDIS has supported my dear friend attending events that were out of reach before like family weddings, it supported my nieces and nephews to get the assistance for learning at school and the on going support to learn skills and coping strategies. The NDIS means that my dearest friend has been able to have less chronically ill days and been able to work more because their in home supports have managed the day to day tasks that exhaust their energy and would often end up in worsening conditions and even hospitalisations.

If we were to review keeping our community healthy, safe, included and productive using the well known and used method of risk assessment and hierarchy of controls like we do for WHS and now recently Sexual Harassment Respectg @ Work laws, we would know that prevention, support, and effective controls are the most effective and cost effective ways to prevent further harm and expense. We know creating urgent care clinics has reduced Hospital Emergency Department stress, so why are we removing the daily care and support from people most at risk of hospitalisations due to their base level health condition? The treatments available to my nieces and nephews are working now but only through trail and error that the NDIS was able to support, what will happen now with treatment will put them risk because there’s a laundry list of treatments available for their disabilities, will they be forced to try them all before being approved? What about finding appropriate, accessible and treatment that the person and family is able to do? Lot’s of treatments are wildly expensive and out of financial reach for most modern working families and with the cost of living crisis being directed to more expensive treatments, facilities are not reasonable. The best health outcomes and financial economic outcomes occur when treatment is local, feasible, realistic in difficulty of routinely performing or taking, and supported.

If you want to change the NDIS to be cost effective, less susceptible to fraud and population productivity the NDIS needs to be nationalised. No more private companies making profit off of care services. The choice of services and needs should still be up to the needs of the person to what they need in their day to day, and for extraordinary circumstances or special events. Rebuild the NDIS to the original plan that Labor promised, fix it, don’t set it up to fail.

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1047

If the NDIS is altered as the government is directing, these changes for my nieces and nephews are going back to struggling at school, their behaviour could change for the worse and my dear friends who have been able to either commence work and study, or attend events with the energy and support from their NDIS carers will be putting them backwards physical health wise, financially, mentally.

You are asking my family, your families and all our friends with disabilities, who have found freedom with the NDIS to relinquish it.
