National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1135

Submission to the Senate Community Affairs Committee

NDIS Future Generations Bill 2026

My name is - I am writing as a member of the community & family member of a disabled person who has seen firsthand how essential the NDIS is for people with profound disabilities. Many Australians rely on daily support not just to survive, but to live with dignity, connection, and a sense of belonging.

The proposed reforms risk taking us backwards. They echo a time when disabled people were pushed out of sight, spoken about rather than spoken to, and treated as problems to be managed instead of people with hopes, routines, relationships, and futures.

The NDIS, despite its flaws, has allowed many to build lives that feel genuinely their own. It has meant being able to choose who comes into their home, who helps them get out into the world, and who supports them to stay part of their community.

I request the committee to oppose the Bill by:

  • Rejecting cuts to community participation funding - connection is not optional; it is what keeps people alive, grounded, and part of society.

  • Guarantee meaningful appeal rights - no one should lose essential supports without a fair and transparent process.

  • Preserve genuine choice of providers - trust is built through human relationships, not imposed systems or rigid categories.

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1135

If this bill passes, many people will lose the supports that allow them to stay safe, connected, and visible in their own communities. We cannot allow that to happen. Every person deserves the chance to live a life that reflects who they are, not what a policy framework decides they should be.

Kind regards,
