National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1239
My name is , I’m a 21 year old student working for a social enterprise that supports neurodiverse teenagers and young adults. I have been working in this field for four years, and in this time I have seen how much of an impact the NDIS has had in supporting young neurodiverse people. The proposed bill would be devastating for so many brilliant minds that already struggle in an unaccepting world.
Without access to the NDIS, people will lose the support that they desperately need to get by. The people I work with will no longer be able to learn and connect in an environment that is actually supportive to their needs, and they will lose the majority of their social interactions. The effects of this are as clear as day. The mental health of thousands of neurodiverse people rely on access to the NDIS, and without it there will be severe consequences for so many people.
It is vital that the NDIS provides individualised plans to support real, individual lives with different needs and access. Sensory and learning needs are so rarely taken into account and often all lumped in together. The NDIS helps differentiate individuals with different needs, even when they have the same disability, which is so important.
If the minister gains the ability to reduce financial support, it would prevent me and my coworkers from providing quality service for people who need it. For some of our participants, our programs are the only time they feel like they can be themselves, and for others it’s the only time they socialise with others or leave the house. This service is vital in raising and supporting the brilliant future minds of our world.
Not having a choice over who provides you support is absolutely ridiculous. There is such a variety of needs that the government cannot possibly begin to understand let alone manage. It is crucial that people on the NDIS can pick their own plan manager and have them work together.
The bill in its current form is incredibly harmful and should not be passed! The mental health of thousands of young Australians will be impacted by this decision.
