National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1271
I am a Disabled person currently receiving NDIS funding
My main concern about this Bill is that disabled people are not the issue with over spending in the budget. There are many service providers who take advantage of people on the ndis and over charge and under deliver. Taking supports away from disabled people instead of targeting dodgy service providers will lead to a burden on the public health system, and disabled people will be worse off.
This Bill may affect me because I am a self managed autistic person and I’m worried I will no longer qualify for the scheme, or have my minimal budget further reduced. NDIS has improved the quality of my life so much, I know that without it my physical and mental health will decline in ways similar to before I had these sorts of supports. My only family is my also disabled mother, we really need ndis because the cost of living alone is so expensive, we cannot also afford the supports needed to manage our disabilities as well.
One example from my experience is that the ndis is already challenging for people to get onto. Making it more inaccessible risks even more disabled people going without supports they need to live equitable lives.
What I want the committee to understand is that service providers charge excessively simply because they know they can. My mother was even being billed for services she was not using, simply because her coordinator saw a way to manipulate the system. This is happening more often than I think is realised. Audit the Service providers, and demand they work to set standards that ensures they actually support their clients.
My position on this Bill is that I do not support it because it is attacking this countries most vulnerable population! Do not throw us away like this.
