National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1294
28th May 2026
I am the mother of a 42 year old NDIS member. I want to respond to the proposed changes in the NDIS Bill 2026
Our family member with a ‘severe’ disability uses and contributes to community services, places of learning, places of service to others and places of community. To do this he utilizes the necessary and reasonable supports he needs to allow him to give, receive and contribute. He is a volunteer at a local school, MOW weekly, festival/music events. He also belongs to a published and highly regarded writer group who perform at poetry festivals, community events, universities and more. He would not be able to have a full, meaningful, contributing life without his NDIS supports. We never want our son to be denied the entitlement of any other citizen.
I was quite alarmed at the proposal for an automated decision making process being proposed, that sounds a little like Robodebt over again. There are safeguards written in the new proposal which are NOT legally enforceable….that’s not truly a safeguard then.
There are quite a few concerns overall with the proposed bill and some of it is just the vague/not clear wording that leaves a lot of room for interpretation/misinterpretation.
I hope the Committee will take all submissions seriously in preparing its report.
Sincerely
