Therapist expresses concern over impact of tighter timelines on clients with disabilities (Provider experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1336

To NDIS Amendment Bill Submission Team.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please accept this submission of concern regarding the current proposed amendments to the NDIS.

I ask that the government withdraw this Bill as it will affect vulnerable people who rely on the NDIS for the support and life changing therapy they are accessing now.

As a therapist of 35 years’ experience, I work with a team of admin people just to make sure clients attend appointments. The proposed tighter timelines for communication and response for a person relying on the NDIS for services is cruel. I know first-hand how hard it is for families and young people with disabilities to attend appointments and respond to messages. The amendment alone is unfair and does not take into account a person’s disability or mental state.

Changing timeline for reassessment and plan review is also extremely unfair and unrealistic for some participants especially in paediatrics. Their needs change from month to month and annual reviews and quicker plan reviews are vital to avoid crisis that will affect the child’s development to adulthood.

Once again, I request that the government withdraw the Bill. This is not going to help the Australians who need the NDIS or the people who have to support them.

Sincerely

OT
