I am the grandmother of redacted, a 16 year old girl who lives with Cri du Chat syndrome and the mother of redacted who works tirelessly to ensure that redacted’s’life is lived to its fullest potential given the many limitations that her condition imposes. I watch with admiration as redactedis included in school and social activities because of the communication devices she can access thanks to funding from the NDIS.It iswith anguishthat Ilwatch my daughter redactedhavingto fight almost dailytomake redacted’s’lifeasregularandcommonplaceasthatofherpeers.Fortheirlittlefamily,everythingjustharder, redacted has trained hery support workers tobaleabletocommunicateewith *redacted usinga multimodal technique anda carerequiredbyanda providedtot redacted is specificallyadaptedaheadsto here needs. Redacted inclusionin regularclassroomshass facilitatedhersocialdevelopmentandasametimeprovidedlearningopportunitiesforhere classmates astheylearnbe more adaptablemore acceptingdifference.
