The NDIS has completely changed my life and given me the support I need to live safely and independently with 24- hour care. Because of the support funded through the NDIS, I was able to move out of a group home and into a living situation that better suits my needs, wellbeing, and quality of life. Having access to consistent support workers, social participation, community engagement, and capacity building has helped me gain more independence, confidence, and stability in everyday life.

The proposed changes to the NDIS are concerning because they could reduce access to vital supports for people who rely on them every day. If supports such as social and community access or capacity building were reduced or removed, it would have a major impact on independence, mental health, safety, and overall quality of life. These supports are not luxuries — they are essential for allowing people with disabilities to participate in society and live with dignity.

I also worry about future generations of people with disabilities who may need the same level of support that I have received. Without adequate funding and access to services, many people may never get the opportunity to move out of unsuitable living arrangements, build independence, or live fulfilling lives within their communities. The NDIS provides opportunities that can completely change someone’s future, and it is important that these opportunities remain accessible for those who need them most.
