Submission regarding the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 I am an NDIS participant with psychosocial disability and I am centered around aspects of this bill that may reduce access to supportsforcommunityparticipationandindependentliving. live alone and rely heavilyon support workerstosafely accessthe community.Withoutsupportworkers,Iamlargelyhousebound duetosevere anxietyandreleatedmentalhealthimpacts.My familyare no longer inpotiontoprovideconsistentinformalsupport.Myp fatheriselderlyunabletodrive longdistanceswhilemysisters bothcareforeachchildrenwithadditionalneedsandsignificant responsibilitiesoftheirown.I am concernedbyprovisions inthebillthatplacegreateremphasis onfunctionalcapacitywhileexcludingenvironmentalandpersonal circumstancesfromconsideration.Inpractice,pyschosocialedisabilities areoftenheavily influencedbymcontextandevironment.A personmayphysicallybeabletocompleteataskbut psychologically be unable todo so safelyorconsistentlywithout suppor.\nI aalsoconcernedabout provisionsencouragingrelianceoni nformalsupportsandcommunitynetworksinsteadoffundedsupports Inmycase, informal supportsarelimitedandalready stretched beyond capacity.Communityaccesssupportsarenotrecreational orluxurysupportsfome.Theyaremaintainingmimentalthelth, independence,and functional capability.Imnotusingsupports forshoppingtripsorsocial outingsinthordinarysense.These outtingsareoftengradualexposuretherapyrecommended by mytreating professionals.The help prevent isolation,deterioration and loss of independence.Livinginasmallregionaltown alsolimitsavailableservicesandoportunities.Supportedoutingshelp mebuildconfidence,maintainedailylivingskillsandancessential activities that Iwould otherwise avoidentirelydue toanxiety.Withoutheset supportswouldlikelybecomingoreasinglyisolatedunabletomangeman basic tasks such as grocery shoppingortendingappointments.I ask the committee tocaredfully considertheimpactofthesereforms on participants with psychosocial disabilities,perticularly thosewhoseimpairmentsofluctuateoarstronglyaffectedb y environmentalandsociaircumstances. iam concernedthat narrowingthedefinitionofsupportsand reducing fundingforcommunityparticipationmayunintentionally increaseisolation,crisispresentations,longterm dependence rather than improving outcomesor sustainability.\ni am alsoconcernedaboutproposedchangesrelateto appropriate treatmentand permanenceofform impairment.As someone living in a rural areaon Disability Support Pension,my accesstoservicestransport,specialists ,andalternativeoptions isalready limitedbygeographycostlifepressures.Psychosoicaldisabilitiesalsodonoresponsefelytoforced participation or overwhelmingtreatmentapproaches.In my experience gradual supported exposure beneficial while being pushedbeyondmlimitscanlead severe deterioration and mental health crises.
