public supports that simply do not currently exist or do not have the capacity to support the number of children who need them. Families are already sitting on waitlists for years. Public systems, schools, childcare and community services are overwhelmed, underfunded and stretched beyond capacity. I am also deeply concerned about the reduction of participant choice and control. Over the last 5 years we have built a support team that understands my daughter, her communication, her behaviours, her strengths and her needs. That consistency matters. Children with disability are not interchangeable and supports cannot simply be replaced by generic services. The reality is that families like mine are already carrying more than we can manage.
