National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 1452
I am writing to you as an NDIS participant with psychosocial disabilities. I’ve been involved since early days after my case transferred directly into the NDIsS when I joined at roll-out stage, since then I have had some unhelpful providers over time but always felt control was mine - able to say who came or went out of life and what happened within it.
Bit-by-bit trust has grown towards this system despite initial fear of strangers controlling me; grocery shopping now possible; even beach trips which brought great happiness and feeling like a normal person because they were free choice not obligation. The old services wouldn’t allow such freedom due to lack thereof. Unfortunately, current thinking seems aligned more closely than ever before on these matters: taxpayers funding those same choices seen frivolous expense. It’s easy to cut them in favour of other daytrips that don’t make us feel our lives are worth living. But recall lockdowns argued similarly severe mental health harm so long-term kept people safe. Why is keeping disabled folks locked away different? Zoom calls alone socialisation? Now I know without doubt that cuts won’t save money: shrinking budget will lead greater healthcare costs for already struggling systems. And rising unemployment cost too: every disabled worker unable work w/o support & every care provider whose hours stripped once we can no longer pay for care. In 2021 Per Capita estimated $2.25 created per dollar invested into NDIS, every billion dollars removed from the scheme would lose around ten thousand jobs.
National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 1452 I highlight these figures because it has been clear from the beginning that the harm this legislation will do to disabled people like me does not matter. We have said, time and time once more, tightening eligibility criteria each size fits all plan and the ability for those running. scheme to decide at whims what we do or dont need put us at riskserious harm. The changes made to our act are being pushed through without any time left over for us commenting about them.
I am losing faith within my government’s willingness listen to us. However maybe money still speaks.
