I am a single mother who raised six children on my own while also living with long-term impacts from severe childhood trauma, disability, mental illness, domestic violence.
Grew up unsafe home alcoholism sexual abuse mental abuse physical abuse received protection no support needed as child fell through cracks escaped abusive environment ended another involved man preyed vulnerability trauma two children before fully understood wrong damaging situation relationship included domestic violence effects which carried me today live ASD ADD CPTSD chronic anxiety lasting impact lifelong trauma survived without proper support understanding advocacy diagnosis expected cope alone raising children trying survive emotionally mentally myself years barely leave bedroom struggled house attend appointments understand paperwork advocate children because constantly overwhelmed unsupported My older children disabilities but their not properly recognised supported younger simply didnt have systems families need navigate disability services education healthcare One memory stayed forever son sent primary school envelope explaining could support him still that envelope now he is year old remember opening it and didnt what said asked help was told “Read this or get someone to read you†But nobody No advocate Support worker Family support Guidance Son illiterate heartbreak earlier support changed much twins higher needs can finally see proper support early intervention do Through NDIS functional capacity caring supports girls progressing ways never had opportunity.

Submission 1468 The support I now receive has changed our lives. It has helped prevent severe carer burnout, alowed me to safely engage in the community, to attend appointments, understand complex systems, and continue healing while parenting children with disabilities.
