Hello Senitors.
I am writing for you to consider this NDIS changes.

One significant point is the changes they have put in for parental responsibility. This new wording will mean that NDIS will be able to deny EVERY child. Support does make a household more efficient because it means that the parent isn’t having to do some of the disability requirements. Eg. Lifting, changing, behaviour of concerns management (the parent may not get hit, kicked, stabbed etc). So having it stated in the new legislation that support cannot make a household more efficient is completely unacceptable.
Families even with the support given, still do substantial care above and beyond ordinarily expected for a child/young person without a disability. There are so many things that a well above expected that families do beyond what people see.
Cutting access to community access without considering any circumstances of the participant. For NDIS anything that a person leaves the house for is counted as community access. Eg walking the dog, medical appointments, seeing family, grocery shopping, work, volunteering, religious services and plenty more things. Cutting access to do these things restricts not just the person with disability but also their families. For us personally we cannot leave the house without our young person having adequate support of 2 trained support staff. This means we will lose the ability to be able to leave the house. Because our supports will be removed, we cannot leave our person at home by themselves. We will lose connection with our community which is extremely limited already due to the high needs of person with disability. Not just our person but we will also be denied access to our religious services.
Our support workers are trained specifically to our person with disabilities, come from an Australian owned and run company. All money from NDIS goes directly for the support provided, straight to the Australian company that pays their Australian employees. Both the company and workers all pay Australian tax, they spend within the local community. This is the simple explanation of why NDIS $1 brings $2.25 into the community.

If my person with disabilities does not receive the support they require, they will need to be placed in a specialised residential care with intensive support costing over $2Million per year. Reducing support is not even cost effective in multiple forms.
You might think that because my person has higher needs that we should be fine. But based on the actual legislation that is currently for your review this is not what it states/allows for.
I hope that you seriously consider reviewing this legislation and remember everyone is just one accident from requiring the support of our government. This legislation allows a minister to cut any support up to 99% without considering a persons need.
Please also know that we took guardianship of these high needs children to provide them a permanent family saving millions of dollars a year. With far better and cheaper long term outcomes. But without the correct disability support it will no longer be a safe option for anyone to do.
