National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

I am Plan Nominee for my Sister. She has a chronic psychosocial disability – from her early 20s, now she’s in her 60’s. She does not cope with life at all. She has not worked since her mid 20’s. She is afraid to leave her house. She is tormented with voices in her head most nights. She is not unintelligent but struggles to get anything done including attending to hygiene and unit cleanliness. She also struggles to let anyone in to her unit to assist so when we can get a worker in, we stick with the same worker if my sister accepts them.

My concerns with this amendment to the NDIS bill that she will be one of the ones thrown off the NDIS seen we are told that the ones with psychosocial disabilities are one group to be considered for removal. If she is removed, she will just fade away, unseen, unheard and die as she has no ability to look after herself or her unit to enable life. Things will just implode. She has no ability to appeal any negative NDIS decision. No ability at all. I am in my 70’s and live 1.5 hours away from her. I have very limited ability physically and mentally to help her. Over the decades she has fallen through the cracks as the Mental Health system doesn’t actually follow up on people. There is no ongoing support. Lots of words but zero substance.

Please do not kick people off without full access to other supports. Do not just leave it to my sister to organize her own supports (that don’t actually exist) as she can’t. And I’m not much use anymore.

People who are removed from the NDIS should be linked in to another 100% suitable support system by the NDIS before they remove the client from the NDIS. Otherwise the NDIS could have blood on their hands.

It would be so so so unsafe for my sister to be one of the ones removed from the NDIS. Scary.
