Explain to me how removing such supports shown to have a positive impact is the right thing for children like this? My child is Autistic level 2 so despite these extreme behaviours your government is set to remove her supports to a state program that doesn’t even exist where the premier has already said supports will not and cannot be funded like for like. Autistic level 2 with co existing anxiety, adhd and PDA just to make the combination of traits more complicated.
We live in a constant state of stress and fear in my family not knowing when to expect the next outburst. My younger child is scared of their sibling due to the behaviour and violence and now is incredibly anxious themselves which is having an effect on their own schooling and peer relationships.
I see taking away supports that build confidence, assist the child’s ability to regulate and learn about their emotions so that they can attend school normally and receive an education is vile. The supports have meant that as parents we can just get by day to day emotionally. We don’t see a cent from the NDIS, any funding we’ve had goes directly to supports who are all NDIS registered practitioners. Without the supports as a family we have to cough up $190 per week for OT, $200 a fortnight for psychology, $13,000 per year for behaviour support and $400 per term for speech therapy. Ontop of our regular out of pocket expenses to see the paediatrician and paediatric psychiatrist to adjust medications or get prescriptions, which I might add medications cost us $200 per fortnight. As a family where both parents work full time in sales and childcare we are not wealthy people. We are the type of people Labor says as a party you support, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. We will not be able to afford these services privately so our child will go without which makes us feel deserted and scape goated for those who didn’t do the right thing by the NDIS.
As now ex-Labor voters we are appalled and don’t have words to exclaim just how grossed we are in a government who would treat its vulnerable this way. Other family members such as grandparents, aunts and uncles who see what we go through day to day are of the same opinion and are likely to change their votes away from Labour too being as disgusted as we are.
I really hope you are proud of yourselves for all the thought that has gone into punishing these families and participants and how to do it. It speaks loud and clear where the Albanese governments morals are at.
I want my voice heard as a constituent, as a parent advocating for an autistic child. The next election cannot come soon enough for myself and my family to direct our votes elsewhere.
