The best way to fix this time bomb known as the NDIS is to means test the participants. After that go after the providers and their overcharging.

Autistic children and children with learning difficulties need to be taken off the NDIS.

I write as a mother and grandmother and a retired learning support teacher. Three of my cchildren were diagnosed with having ADHD and I acted accordingly by finding a good school, studying for a Special Education degree and working in the sector and putting into practice parenting method that provided structure and calm in our household. We paid our own way and never blighted the public purse. These children grew into useful members of society.

When the NDIS came into being I predicted that it would become a cash cow with everybody jumping on board to access this system. The NDIS needs to be only for high needs children with multi disabilities can access. Adults can be catered of only if their needs are very high. It should only be for Australian citizens and much more care need to be taken with vetting new immigrants so we are nor saddled with adopted problems.

The rest can be helped with existing educational school programs with some help from allied health professionals. I said that there would never be enough for the people who access this system when it was badly conceived and designed in the beginning.

If this committee and government is serious about reining in costs then drastic action that may make for unpopularity needs to happen.
