I welcome the opportunity to make a submission to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs about the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026.

I am a family member of an NDIS participant/person with disability. I am also a policy worker in the systemic advocacy space in the disability sector.

I want to outline the harm this Amendment Bill will cause if it passes Parliament. This Bill is too far-reaching to pass as it stands. I believe the Bill requires further scrutiny and amendment before it proceeds.

People with disabilities are hardly surviving under rising food cost, the destruction of public health, the demolition of public housing. We are seeing people have to not eat to afford medication and appointments. People on NDIS receive supports and are helped to participate in community + wellbeing, without that there are so isolated. The privatisation of the NDIS, lack of regulation of service providers, the lack of education and care from bad faith actors in the service provider industry is to blame - do not punish disabled people for this. If there was a scandal in the public hospital sector, would you shut the whole hospital???? People will die, horrific, lonely, and slow deaths, many to suicide - we remember robodebt. You can not do this. I am someone who is disabled and can’t even get on the NDIS even though I meet so much of the criteria. There are many people like us who also need more not less support but can’t access it. Don’t do this.
