National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 1621
Dear Senators,
I am writing about the proposed changes to the NDIS. My friend has a 19-year-old daughter who lives with moderate intellectual disability due to chromosomal abnormalities affecting health and disabilities as well; these challenges are enormous making both motherhood and daily living hard.
National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment
Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Bill 2026 Submission 1621
Knowing my friend’s experience of caring for someone with a disability, the things that worry me about the proposed changes to the NDIS are:
- That the Minister will have the power to cut participant’s plans at will despite plans being approved by the NDIA;
- The 30% cuts to social and community supports shift more responsibilities back onto families, especially women; this makes their lives harder when they often already run on empty.
- Proposed funding cuts increase physical mental health financial burden on exhausted carer.
- Cuts make her daughter’s life much isolated. My friends’ daughter also wants independence but is impossible if these supports are removed. There has not been proper consultation regarding participants’carers service providers affected. The government now considers it an income support scheme rather than as needed in communities dignified independent lives. Thank you for consideration concern. Yours faithfully,Lingsi lu
