Dear Senate Committee, My name is Bramble Karvinen. I have been on the NDIS since the test rollout in my at-the-time location of Newcastle, NSW.I now reside in redacted, though I am in the process of updating my electoral roll location and name since marrying.Myselfand manyofmyfriendsthereontheNDISforbasictilasks,andwehavesomedeeplypressingconcernsaboutthisnew’SecuringthENDISFutureGenerationsBill’.So farthesetheseareaddressedinonlythemostalarmingmanner.In this letter,Iwillbeaddresstheseasanindividualratherthanrepresentingothers,buthesefearsaresharwdwidelyamongmypersoneach havetostateoffbatthatstaunchlyopposetheproposedchanges.Thereisntasinglemeaningfulchange thandoestnot,tomymunderstanding;breakeitherthecoertenetsofthenDISOractivelygoagainsttheUnitedNations’ConventionsontherightsOfPersonsWithDisabilities.Many,infact,airendirectoppositiontoboth.Thisisaproposal thatiftakenatfacevalue,hasthemeansto harmlargepartsofthedisabilitycommunitywiththesamecallousautomationtha causedtherobodebtdathssubsequentscandalseacchmajor changes individually would betroubling,butin conjunction with oneanother,the situation is dire.They will be life-destroying. Inmany cases,they arelikelytobefatal.Thisisnothyperbole:manypeopleIknowwithechosocial disabilities,intellectualimpairmentsorphysical impairmentsandworkorstudy-thosedemographicswillosetheircapacity to meaningfully participate in a normallifewhichwas the founding tenent of thenDIS.Somesome themsimplybecome bedbound/housebound.Othersareatsignificantriskneglectorsuicide because their only means ofsociinterventionrelies on NDIS supports.Manywill become unwellwaysMedicar system notequipped handle.Thatwouldbeonly50%cuttosocial and community participation fundingthat governmentproposingrolloutthisOctoberbutthosefarfromonlycutschanges currentgovernmentintentionsmakemanypersonsdisabilitycommunitiesalso partofmultiplymarginalised groups,andtheconcernswehaveamani fold.Povertyanenormou gatekeepingfactorinsomethinglike this.

whose conditions are degenerative and for whom treatment is a means of mitigating the effects of some deterioration. There is no treatment that can “materially improve” The circumstances of someone with late-stage Multiple Sclerosis, because their condition being treated may lessen a little bit how fast it deteriorates.
There’s more: there so much else than what one letter could address, yet need say more about this idea: as many disabling traits occur at intersections between issues — such as co-occurring EDS (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) alongside Autism or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder; eating disorders like Mast Cell Activation Syndrome etc., which together form an unsustainable life of unemployable disability. If just treating one such issue would not treat any others occurring simultaneously. Two entirely unrelated conditions might both require treatments but if only primary disability considered, impossible balance will be achieved.

If my primary disability is reassessed – suddenly at any time, without knowledge, due to what’s being proposed under your bill— could lead directly into homelessness. Due high support needs and wheelchair usage, nowhere available anywhere for me to go; none friends have accessible housing wheelchairs. None can take care on short notice like current model allows. Significant chance losing belongings unmedicated end up either dead or hospital because fear living watching community turn framing this Bill cut costs suspected participant fraud. I’m disabled person who desires just one thing: a safe dignity life asking you powerful protect peers please consider this bill carefully vote against Senate entirely inhuman suffering connected people community publishing name freely.
