National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

To the honourable Members of Parliament, and the dishonourable ones, I know you are both there. I see you in action and inaction.

I write to you as an NDIS participant.

I am living with disability, chronic illness and homelessness. Some of this is due to governmental failures, some not.

I am a newer NDIS participant and am grateful for the support that is enabling me to think about a future. One where I may not continue to suffer ongoing homelessness, but have access to stable housing, one where I may be able to increase my capacity and function, and engage in society and contribute more.

I’m grateful to be able to look forward to the possibility of gainful employment. And enjoyment of a better quality of life. One where I am more connected to community and society, having the supports that I need in order to be able to accomplish goals and build connections and quality of life.

The reality of disabled homeless people trying to make ends meet on the disability support pension while being swept aside, slipping through the Cracks and forgotten by the rest of a society that is powering forward in greed and carelessness, needs to end.

The government is drawing funds away from people who dearly need it, in order to protect the interests of billionaire gas corporations and to fund the most destructive forces on this planet, namely the United States of America and Israel. The funding of submarines and the complicity in genocide and other war crimes is testament to the horrors of which this government are willing to engage at the expense of ordinary Australians, both abled and disabled.

The NDIS is an opportunity for myself and others like me and also society at large, to be able to increase not only individual quality of life, but collective quality of life, for the majority of Australians, both now and in the future.

I call upon the hearts and conscience of all parliamentarians. I ask you to please act kindly, act ethically, and act for the most long-term benefit of the majority.
