National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 1675
Hello, my name is , I am an NDIS participant, and I vehemently oppose this bill. I would like to say more, and more incisively, than I know I will but I’m exhausted and overwhelmed and we, collectively, have not been given enough time to give our responses so instead all I can think to express is the truth at the heart of this bill which is that it is going to kill people. Be it through suicide provoked by the despair of the loss or denial of needed supports; the exacerbation of otherwise life-threatening disability through lack of supports; or even simple short-supply of emergency medical resources spread ever-thinner by an increase in disabled individuals experiencing medical emergencies they otherwise wouldn’t due to lack of supports – and this will endanger non-disabled individuals as well; etc. etc. etc. One way or another this bill guarantees death. It is fundamentally not possible to cut funding and access to something like the NDIS without it leading inexorably to the deaths of disabled people, not to mention the broader worsening of conditions for all that will cruelly exacerbate the struggles of those of us it doesn’t kill.
What I’m less sure about is my perspective on whether the bill’s supporters are simply so incompetent and insulated as to not realise that this is the case, or whether they are instead just so callous that they don’t care or even perhaps are counting on it. Probably the truth is somewhere in the middle.
I resent being forced into a position of begging for the lives and wellbeing of my friends and loved ones and the disabled people of Australia as a whole, including myself, but it seems the Australian government is determined to have me do so. So, please, do whatever you can/have to, to see this bill fail.
