Submission Against Changes to the NDIS
My name is Saul and I am the stepfather of a young adult with a lifelong intellectual disability who is supported through the NDIS.
I am writing because I have seen firsthand the difference the NDIS has made to his life and I am depthily concerned about the proposed changes to the scheme. When I first became part of his life, could see he faced challenges building confidence developing independence participating community Like many peopl ewith intellec tual disabilitie s everyday activities others take granted difficult overwhelming The suppor tht receives through NDIS helped him develop skills confidenc sense purpose He started small business participates communit yactivities working towards living more independently futur These achievements not happened accident They been possible becaus he received right suport people understand needs One greatest concerns potential loss choic control over support workers relationship between person wihdisabilti es their support worker built time trust consistency understanding These relationships critical achieving positive outcomes cannot simply replaced without consequences also concern propos reductions social commun ity participation budget supports are optional extras help build friendships participate society maintain positiv mental health prevent isolation provide opportunities growth inclusion increased reliance automated systems artificial intelligence assess review supports significant another People lifetim disabilities should repeatedly prove conditions will never improve Disability support decisions shoule by people who understan complexities disability individual circumstances demonstrated what can achieved when people with disabilities given opportunity participat fully in soci ety Rather than creating dependence created independen ceconfidence hope future urge Parliament reconsider these chang ensure reforms focus improving accountability reducing fraud rather reducin support choice for genuine participants Thank you considering my submission.
