Future Generations Bill 2026

I live in NSW and am a mother of eight children. I am a carer for my youngest child as he has special needs due to his moderate-severe intellectual disability, complete reliance on tube feeding, his incontinence and other medical complexities. He also has Trisomy 21.

I am writing today to ask for your support in opposing the Future Generations bill until amendments are made. I have grave concerns about the bill allowing the Minister to cut 50% of social and community participation funding and the potential power to cut other areas of funding without review. The new reassessments and loss of review rights are also problematic.

NDIS has supported my son in many ways over the years and has made speech and occupational therapy possible as well as supporting his high needs re tube feeding and incontinence. We have also just received funding for social and community participation which will open his world from being family and home-centric to bigger opportunities and successes while giving him the support he needs. However, cuts to these funds will diminish my son’s opportunities. His siblings are burnt out with caring, my husband and I both suffer chronic pain conditions and are limited in supporting him in the community. My son’s future could well be determined by these cuts and our potential inability to appeal due to this bill.

Our lives are full and busy, especially so with the full time care our son needs. NDIS plans are demanding and exhausting, but this new amendment adds immediate compromises to our son’s support, uncertain repercussions at any time and indefinite-to-impossible ways to appeal for reviews. Again, I ask you to vote against the Future Generations bill until safeguards and certainties can be ensured.
