The right to choose to use independent support workers allows me to feel safe with who supports me and is in my home. Continuity of supports builds trust over time and large providers often have high turnover over of staff or they choose who sees you based on what is right for them not you. My independent support workers both only have me as a client and could not afford the costs involved in registering. With psychosocial disabilities your relationship with your Support Workers is key to getting help that is able to support you at your worst.

I used a cleaning company that was the top registered provider on google and they were awful. There name was Alligator cleaning. They rescheduled at the last minute and also didn’t turn up three times in a row before I ended the service. This is when the ‘CEO’ called me from California and I realised they were just a labour hire company. I don’t know how they got registered but I guess if you have the money it’s possible even if you potentially put vulnerable people at risk. I don’t support mandatory registration. I think this will force independent workers out of the system leaving us to be numbers to big non government organisations.

My support coordinator is someone I trust and again it’s a role that needs continuity and trust built over time. If the government choose my support coordinator will get someone at random who might not have an interest in me as a human being or understand my specific disabilities.

i am scared of Al making decisions in any way for NDIS. We are human beings and our lives need to be examined by other human beings who can judge our situation with compassion. I am also worried about losing rights to appeal decisions to the ART, because computers make mistakes. These computers will literally have human lives in their hands.

I don’t understand why the Minister would be given the right to make cuts to groups of people or individual people with disabilities without qualifications in specific disabilities. I don’t feel they are educated enough to understand all types of disabilities and the impact this will have. Surely the people making these decisions should have a deep understanding of each disability like living experience. I want an independent body to provide oversight into all decisions like this.

The media are singling out autism and psychosocial disabilities as if we have done something wrong by existing. People in positions of power are saying cruel and ignorant things about us that are not right and not fair but even more importantly impact the stigma and discrimination we face day to day.

I am not a criminal, the NDI have no reason or right to search my home and feel this is discrimination against people with disabilities. I am also scared of being issued a large fine if I didn’t understand something or was given the wrong information. NDI participants should not have less human rights. If you want to search my home I want you to have a warrant from a judge like any able bodied/minded people would get.

Why is there now an assumption that NDIS participants are bad or breaking the law or rules when we are not?
