Dear Prime Minister

I am distressed and angry to learn that your government is punishing The most vulnerable people in Australia for the mismanagement of previous governments, the wastage in administrative costs and the greed of Private companies.

My son who is 25 is like a giant one year-old. He can’t cross the road he can’t drive the car. He can’t speak at all. He has Intellectual Disability. He will never have a wife Or a family and the only joy he gets is to go out into the community. We can’t take him to shopping centres for the places where many people are because he steals food and if they take it back off him, he attacks because he doesn’t understand. As Disability has destroyed our family through the lack of support that we have had, it is affected our children and their lives. They cannot have children themselves because of their little brother, They are burnt out from a childhood full of supporting him. It is affected our ability to be in the workforce and our superannuation and I will never be able to retire even though I cannot be paid employment because I am my son’s second informal Support every single day 365 days a year For the last 25 years without a single holiday. It is affected my health the health of my children and my ex-husband.

Recently due to insufficient funding, I have had to look after my son at night for many weeks from 3 am to 7 am which affected my health and my Abilty to take him out because I couldn’t drive safely due to tiredness. In addition the lack of access to the community caused so much boredom that he began to engage in behaviours caused by stress that resulted in two Medical Emergencies and Hospital presentations to the emergency department. This was a direct result of the lack of funding

Unlike his first cousin who is the same age my son is trapped in his home on the weekend unable to leave because he does not have adequate funding supports To go out in the community every day of the week like every other Australian citizen. He is being treated like someone who Is incarcerated And he certainly doesn’t have the same rights as peers without Disability. Stop discriminating against people with disability! We all want the NDIS to be sustainable but attacking the people that it was designed for is not the right way to achieve that. I have four masters degrees. My ex-husband has a phd and my children are University graduates and they support your government and the Australian community More through their HECS fees than The gas corporations and the other 2% of Australians that owned the majority of wealth and pay less tax. Recoup money from them and secure the NDIS into the future by taking the funds from the

companies and entities that can most afford to do it and who have not been Contributing to the Australian economy for generations compared to the amount they take from it. This is what I thought. The Australian Labour Party stood for but clearly you’re just the liberal party in disguise!

People with disability and their families and their supporters make up 6 million people in Australia and we will vote with our feet against any government that tries to slash funding for the needs of people with Disability who genuinely need them.

Why don’t you go after people like*who charge $10,000 for a single car safety harness? Why don’t you go after builders who want $80,000 to remove the Jip rock from the ceiling of my son’s bathroom living room and bedroom and put it in a skip?(And that’s without even replacing the ceiling) It seems that as soon as the private sector hear the word NDIS they add on a 600 to 800% margin or more.

My mother who lives in a nursing home and who has friends who vote will also be supporting the fight against your abhorrent and unjust Bill.

Why don’t you start taxing churches? Why don’t you start texting millionaires and billionaires that live in Toorak, Vaucluse and Point Piper and fig tree pocket who are on an age care pension?

The fact is that the NDIA Rubs their hands together every time a family, Like the one in Perth earlier this year, kills themselves and their loved one because it’s an easy form of slashing funding.

Already the United Nations high commissioner has voiced their concerns about how Australia is not doing enough in regards to the UN committee against torture In places of secondary detention such as disability institutions and now You were trying to strip Australians with disability of even more human rights by slashing the funding for things that they require to even have the most basic elements of an ordinary life.
