National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 1797
I am writing to share my personal experience as a parent and carer concerned about the proposed changes in this Bill. While I understand that the government is trying to make the scheme sustainable for the future, it makes it harder for real people to access essential supports needed to live everyday lives. The NDIS has been lifeline providing stability managing son’s disability participating Community. When considering defining functional capacity tightening permanent impairments feel anxiety whether needs recognized met under new framework.(1-5) Based own journey navigating NDLS complex process requires constant advocacy.Every person’s disability affects them unique fluctuating ways system tries rigidly define categorizing risks leaving most vulnerable behind.I know firsthand effort gather right medical evidence assessments show impairment limits ability independently which he can not.If laws even harder prove connection between an impairment exact support required fear many genuinely require assistance will fall through cracks.Focus should always practical day-to-day reality living with rather than arbitrary measurements or treating conditions one-size-fits-all manner. Furthermore, concerns proposed plan renewals unscheduled reassessments tighter rules regarding permanence.Living lifelong means ongoing threat having his plan reduced reviewed without clear cause creates immense stress.Experienced past year took over months correct causing much risk harm danger him family community.Disruption funding disrupt life care independence.absolutely agree scheme needs safeguards against fraud misuse do believe solution restrictive penalize participants rely funds just survive function.[1 2] I urge Committee carefully consider human impact legislation.
