Submission to NDIS Future Generations Bill 2026

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is and I am a community member living in Brisbane, Queensland. I am also a special education teacher and have contact with families and carers of young people with disabilities in a professional capacity. Additionally, I worked as a support worker in Melbourne for a number of years in the early days of the NDIS being rolled out. I do not represent an organisation in this submission.

I have serious concerns about the Future Generations Bill and oppose it.

One issue that I have with the Bill (although there are many) is the 50% cut to social and community participation funding from October 2026. In most cases that I know of, NDIS participants are not accessing enough social and community participation support. And in all cases, this access makes life worth living. Proposing any cuts to this participation in social life will have a direct impact on disabled peoples’ impact in the world, which would be a grave step backwards. I would particularly like to highlight the impact that this will have on already stretched families, whose children access social and community participation support through the NDIS. Without these supports, families will be increasingly likely to experience caring burnout and mental health decline, which will inevitably put pressure on emergency health systems.

Instead, I would implore the Committee to undertake a large-scale review of the way that the NDIS could be expanded to ensure that disabled people have access to a broad range of social and community access. This would need to include a budget review in all areas, not just the NDIS, but the health system, the policing system, and the military.
