Submission 1822 Good afternoon, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding proposed changes to NDIS funding and the impact this could have on my 40-year-old son whom has Downsyndrome and many other vulnerable Australians living with disabilities. My son currently receives NDIS funding and is transitioning into independent living. Six months ago, six months ago,,we made the decision to purchase him his own unitand he successfully movedinto his home in February 2026.February 2026.Thishas beena major milestonein hislifewith independenceness.Heis employed under Supported Wage System(SWS) arrangements works hours per week unsupported.Hiss abilityto maintain this indepen dence relies heavilyon continuedNDIS supportfunding.Capacity Building supports are essentialina ssistinghimtocomplete shopping independentlyAttend medical appointmentsAccessthe hairdresser and pharmacyParticipate ingymfitness classesfor health wellbeingBuild positive relationships withinthecommunityRemainsocially connectedLearntosafely use public transportIn thome, suppor t workers assistwithKitchen cooking safetyMeal preparationMaintaining hygiene cleanlinessinhomemedication management daily routinesWithoutthissupport,hisindependencequality of life would be severely impacted.Iwouldalsoliketoexpress serious concernsregarding safet y ifsupportsare reducedor removed.Peoplelivingdisabilities extremelyvulnerable.Withoutcommunity accessandsupportmanywillbecomesolatedstaringat four walls every day.Would membersof government accept livesafetyfuture people with disabilities.
