National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

My name is and am an author and a university researcher at . My husband provides support for people on the NDIS and I have a number of close friends with disabled children. I am very concerned about the new NDIS bill and am opposed to the changes in their current form. The NDIS currently not only allows clients agency over their own lives but in the cases I am aware of allows them to remain part of their family and also for their parents to have the final say over their care. Without the NDIS the families I know of would not only be unable to financially provide for the needs of their children, but these already exhausted and burnt-out carers would be under further mental and physical stress. These proposed changes and the uncertainty that this is causing is already causing unnecessary pressure on families already stretched to the limit. One family in particular I know has a very low functioning, non verbal autistic adult son and their health is suffering hugely as a result of the stress of the implications of the changes to the NDIS. In particular, myself and the families my husband works with and my friends with disabled children are worried about the loss of social support and about people not being able to choose and use trusted support workers. I am also worried about the people the negative impacts on their mental and physical health and the implications of this on our broader society should this bill be passed. For all of these reasons I believe the bill in its current form is harmful and should not be passed by Parliament.
