National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 1868
NDIS Submission 28/5/26
The NDIS is currently providing crucial daily support for my friends, community and clients (as a Clinical Psychologist).
It has changed disabled people’s lives, from barely existing, to being able to feed and wash themselves, access community services, and participate in community in so many valuable ways, such as volunteer and paid work.
As an individual running an entirely bulk-bill and NDIS funded service (and not charging the maximum rate), I have seen people’s mental health improved dramatically. The support worker assistance they have received has meant they have needed less behavioural management support from me, and also that the Medicare funded mental health support has been better able to meet their psychological needs.
I am deeply concerned about the proposed changes to the NDIS Act.
The new eligibility criteria may well exclude most of the people I live and work with.
I believe that we will see an increase in physical illness, suicidal risk and distress, and increased burden on the already overstretched health system.
