National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 1880
Before engaging with the NDIS, I struggled my way through a bachelor degree in psychological science with the hopes of becoming a psychologist and the goal of helping people. Secretly, I also yearned to understand why I couldn’t perform to the same level as my peers. Why couldn’t I work and study without having days taken from me due to exhaustion? Why was hyperventilating in the bathroom at night or during loud music too exhausting even though you were working there all that time ? or Why would going shopping via public transport make one want naps instead just getting home after an hour’s worth of walking around town? The answers came later on but not until seeking out cognitive assessments which helped explain myself better than ever before . At $4k , it revealed diagnoses such as ASD Level II mixed presentation ADHD PTSD etc… at roughly once every seven days could do anything like shower eat cook laundry go grocery shop etc…the rest spent recovering afterwards. every meal became something burdensome yet necessary so often waited till almost passing out before ordering sustenance somewhere cheap quickly. washing oneself doing chores cleaning - all tasks felt Sisyphusian pushing up boulders only rolling back down again being hauled up repeatedly. cannot keep jobs hence no viable means for making money thus seek treatment improve quality life tried everything available limited resources Every year get mental health care plan GP standard 10 sessions very little meaningful change because inadequate number of sessions (not enough) addressing deep seeded trauma survived did have funds extra sessions address disabilities. as newer participant NDIS second plan included psychology funding occupational therapy Functional Capacity Assessment support workers community access assistance within house completed FCA unable follow-up due lack funding my second plan initiated without consultation family member death justified under “not relevant to disability” and “value-for-money rejection clauses”. If had own money accessed psychology OT would never needed the NDIS. Any other choice taken instead stands with limited capacity building supports such an OT or psychologist sufficient funding complete a follow-up FCA maybe handful session actually work on capacity-building. Am trying what I can given me but there is limit individually use sparingly as necessary maintain steadily increase ability leave home do things outside like seeing friends joining since NDIS gone from leaving once fortnight groceries multiple times week working controlling feeling fox around loaded gun away safety home sweat pours public spaces heart races breathing gets heavy every mistake feels countdown catastrophic meltdown Other days fuse longer yet shorter others some good days much further away gamble morning wake Will today be good? Finally got list done day Did knee sublux in sleep body hurt so productive Or will body

feel like a bruise and my breath wheeze because I pushed myself too hard by doing laundry AND grocery shopping in one day? Pull the lever, roll the dice, raise the stakes - it’s a gamble even writing this has been a struggle). However, I find myself here writing this at dark o’clock the day before the cut-off of this inquiry because I saw no information about it until yesterday.
The information around legislative changes has been vague fear-inducing;and hard-to-find Everywhere participants kicked off NDIS so government can tackle fraud But kicking 160k participants off NDIS sounds targeting community rather than fraudulent service providers The unique anyone workplace accidents old age or car crash someday all will experience some form Loss functionality isn’t something would wish but inevitability lost ability to function invisible made me quirky weird could hide plain sight struggled silence refuse stay silent heal loudly Truthfully have idea what comes next as an participant thought future terrifies struggling animal caught snare Fear other people disability safety wellbeing just own foreseeable feeling helplessness despair drown lives shadow always hang over These changes men women free from disability affect hundreds thousands lives saved access NDIS Without leaving disabled baby window sill humane death they did old may put us hidden rooms old days lock up asylums old days write off entirely defect accepted difference Do really want Australia regress progress Really want follow regressive footsteps America? In conclusion legislation surrounding shouldn’t be abled who have no experience life harder when you are disabled And hope advocacy grants support need.
