To whom it may concern,

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the proposed changes to the NDIS that would remove or limit a participant’s ability to seek a review of decisions made about their plan.

For families like mine, the ability to request a review is not a luxury — it is a safeguard. NDIS plans are not always built correctly the first time. Mistakes happen. Supports are overlooked, funding is reduced without proper understanding of the participant’s needs, or planners may not fully understand the complexity of disability and daily life.

Without the ability to review decisions, families could be left with no pathway to challenge inadequate plans that directly impact safety, health, education, employment, and basic quality of life.

As a parent/carer, the consequences of a poorly funded or poorly built plan can be devastating. Reduced supports can mean:

• parents being forced to reduce or give up work,
• children missing out on therapies or essential supports,
• increased stress and burnout on families,
• higher risks of hospitalisation, mental health decline, or family breakdown,
• and in extreme situations, families being unable to continue caring safely for their child at home.

The review process exists because people with disability deserve fairness, accountability, and the right to be heard when decisions do not reflect their actual needs.

Removing this right would place enormous power into a system without providing participants any meaningful avenue to correct errors. That is frightening for many families already struggling to navigate a complex system.

I urge you to reconsider any changes that remove or weaken the ability for participants to review NDIS decisions. People with disability and their families deserve transparency, procedural fairness, and protections against incorrect decisions that can have life-altering consequences.
