Submission from: K’s Grandmother – May 2026
Who Am I?
I’m submitting this as K’s grandmother. K has Cri du Chat syndrome and requires significant support due to her condition which includes severe intellectual disability, significant communication delays, high physical care requirements in all environments because of safety concerns related to herself or others around her who may also require assistance.
National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment
Securing the NDIS for Future Generations - Bill 2026
Submission 1913
The bill allows K to participate meaningfully within our community family but cutting its benefits would make her world smaller. • The minister has power at any time and without explanation or oversight over reducing or capping all supports which terrifies me knowing everything planned could vanish overnight due to such decisions made by ministers; • The suggestion from the bill regarding parents providing more direct care does not reflect reality; caring requires what they already give entirely with nothing left if support disappears, expecting more without it won’t end well anyone involved, • The prospect of K being pushed towards group home living as an adult frightens me deeply. Royal Commission into Violence Abuse Neglect Exploitation People With Disabilities documented horrors those settings can cause no grandmother should have fear that fate for their grandchild.
My Request To Committee:
The committee must hear voices families like ours people who love someone disability see clearly this will take away.K born a world best was beginning value include people like hers do want progress undone. Please recommend removal amendments cut supports remove appeal rights concentrate power over funding single Minister accountability ensure NDIS remains guarantee people disabilities receive needed whole lives. K deserves good life Her parents deserve support ever-increasing burden And as her grandma I need know country live in takes care when longer able.
