Submission Regarding Proposed NDIS Changes
I am writing as a parent and NDIS family member who is deeply concerned about the proposed changes to the NDIS and how they may affect families like ours.
Before the NDIS, I never imagined my daughter would have many choices about her future after school. The NDIS changed that. It gave her the opportunity to develop life skills, confidence, independence, and hope for her future.
My daughter has only just finished school and her adult journey has not even truly started yet. Through the NDIS, she is learning social skills, participating in café training, creating products for her microbusiness, selling them at markets, and becoming a more active member of the community.
One of her dreams is to work in a café so she can serve people in the community, contribute to society, and give back in her own way. She wants to be an active member of society rather than feeling isolated or left behind.
With the right support, opportunities, and proper training, I truly believe this goal can be possible for her.
To achieve these goals, ongoing NDIS funding and support are essential.
Community participation supports are a major part of her everyday life. These activities are not simply recreational. They provide routine, friendships, confidence, communication skills, and a sense of belonging.
I am deeply concerned that reductions in funding and community participation supports will significantly reduce her opportunities and social connections. She may struggle to understand why her everyday life and social interactions have suddenly changed, and this could seriously impact her mental wellbeing.
The NDIS has given my daughter the ability not only to receive support, but to dream, set goals, contribute to the community, and work toward a meaningful future.
As parents, we are very careful and responsible with how funding is used. Every dollar is used to help our daughter build independence and skills for her future.
I understand the cost of the NDIS is significant for Australia and that the government must consider sustainability. However, instead of reducing essential supports for participants, I believe greater consideration should be given to reducing operational and provider-related costs such as travel, administration, and other extra charges while

Maintaining the direct supports participants genuinely need.
Young people with disabilities deserve the opportunity to grow, participate in the community, and build meaningful adult lives.
