National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 2015

To Whom It May Concern,

I am a full-time business owner; thank you NDIS! Thanks to your support in society. You see: also as an informal caregiver:

  • Firstly caring for two out four children who are now adults; Secondarily taking on responsibility with my newly married Husband’s kids - both adult/school leavers all having disabilities! Many years ago when our children were little & single mum, I begged for help due severe stress/depression diagnosis. Life felt unbearable dealing abusive ex-husband & disabled child no one around was too much burden. Once received DSQ lifeline block funding, severe mental health improved significantly confirmed psychologist. Studied and worked part-time ever since. as family became more independent w/supports place could fully engage career took over running own business purchased house independently. Then daughter left school plan smaller yet intellectual disability made it unsafe. had give up everything built through extreme hardships couldn’t let this happen so went ART granted hours still run biz successfully. care outside of work without break exhausted managing but honestly can’t do it without ndis supports terrified thought losing everything become carer just keep safe family. son able works part time job thanks NDIS supports husband works full-time job thanks same.

Submission 2015 My step daughter has her own micro business thanks to her ndis supports. We CAN NOT do these things without community access supports.I as their carer CAN NOT provide transport to 5 different people going to 5 different places. While running my own business. And we can’t keep our house without mybusiness.Carer burnout is realand whileit’s already challengingwithsupportsIdon’t even wantto think whatitis willbe likewithout becauseI’ve been therebut now haveso much moretolose.Whenmyfamily werereceiving block fundingwe couldonly use an agency.Withtheagency they constantly hadworkers absentwouldn’t call me,sosono one would pickup mychild from schoolandi woulld get acall at work.Ihadagencyemployees stealfromme.I also workedforan agenciandy find employees that youcan trust ist extremely rare.Having independent support workers gives medirect contact with them, control overwhichsupportswork,I have means toccheck alltheir qualifications and experience andremitiate a lower ratetosave money ontheplan.Cuttingcommunityaccess makingindependent support worker registered Ido not agree witthisgoingtobevery damagingnot onlytomymy family but the wholecommunity.Regards
