National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 2018
- From October 1st 2026, K’s social, civic & community participation funding would be cut in half ( 50%), without considering individual needs nor any right of appeal. This is funds allowing her access to swimming pools, time spent interacting w/ school friends as well as being part o f family life described above; such a reduction significantly impacts QoL & increases my cousin’s burden greatly.
The proposed bill grants Ministers sweeping power to further reduce support caps prices or limit services at anytime; no oversight/review exists. For our family planning stability based on NDIS assurances: it deeply destabilizes us all! -‘Parental responsibility’ provisions are drafted so broadly that they risk denying supports virtually anyone with disability, on grounds parents should provide care themselves. My cousin already does more than most can sustain alone using dedication as basis reducing funded support would unjustly punish them. -The removal of appeals concerns me immensely. The fact majority tribunal cases lost tells us poor decisions not families misusing system. Removing appeals doesn’t solve problem—it simply removes accountability.
What This Means For A Family I Love
My cousin has planned for years ensuring dignity close-to-family and needed support.KNDIS made future feel achievable. This Bill jeopardises it entirely. What troubles me the most: NDIS appears pushing towards group homes for adults needing complex care.Cri du Chat community hears this directly.Royal Commission documented real risks in such settings. No family deserves worse option. Cousin is K’s full-time carer, accepts role. She shouldn’t have to carry weight diminishing support without appeal rights nor certainty about next year.Breaks promise & isn’t good enough.
My Request To The Committee
I ask committee look past framing bill fraud reduction/sustainability measure examine honestly what will do people w/ significant permanent disabilities always at center.NDIs purpose. Recommend removing blanket funding cuts unchecked ministerial powers elimination appealing rights.Director genuine reform toward administrative failures pricing decisions driving unsustainable cost growth—not toward families need scheme most planning lives around its promises.
